“Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake” Spin-Off Series Greenlit

Variety has reported that Cartoon Network and HBO Max have greenlit the “Adventure Time” spin-off series, which will focus on Fionna and Cake. For those who are not aware, Fionna and Cake are the genderswapped versions of Finn and Jake. These versions of the characters were introduced in the ninth episode of the third season of the original “Adventure Time” series simply titled, “Fionna and Cake.” Fionna and Cake are the “heroes” depicted in a fanfiction created by the Ice King as seen in the episode. The duo would cameo within other “sequel” adventures throughout the course of the series.

Currently 10 episodes have been greenlit for the series and will be produced by Cartoon Network Studios. The spin-off series will be titled, “Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake,” and original series director, Adam Muto, will return to direct the new series.

Variety provided a short description for the series.

In the 10-episode series, Fionna and Cake – with the help of the former Ice King, Simon Petrikov – embark on a multiverse-hopping adventure and journey of self-discovery. All the while, a powerful new antagonist determined to track them down and erase them from existence lurks in the shadows.

No other details about the series is confirmed at this time so stay tuned for updates.
