Casting News: Jamie Foxx Set to Play Spawn

Coming at you with some casting news today. We’ve learned that Jamie Foxx is set to play Spawn in the upcoming reboot film. The film is set to be Todd McFarlane directorial debut.  To quote a bit about the character Foxx will be playing.

Al Simmons, a member of a CIA black ops team who is betrayed twice. After being set up by his cohorts to be murdered with his corpse set aflame, Newman is double crossed in Hell. He is convinced to become a Hellspawn warrior in exchange for being able to be reunited with his wife.

I’ll be honest heroes, I’ve never really cared for Spawn. I know but I always felt he was one of the characters that really represented 90s comics in terms of the character and how they were drawn with huge muscles. That said I heard Spawn comics were really good so they have material to pull from. I mean the guy who created Spawn is set to direct so I think this will be a perfect adaptation of this character coming to the big screen once again. Especially during this time, I’m curious to see where they will go with the film along with what changes that might be made. I’m hopeful for this movies success. Especially if it can open more doors for comic book characters that aren’t Marvel or DC Comics to show up on the big screen.
