Cosplay Café 48: Mega Mite

Happy Friday heroes! Cosplay Café is slowly making a comeback this year, as it has been crazy with convention season being in full swing. So I thank my readers for your patience as finding guests can be hard this time of the year. I want to say around September the interviews should be more consistent since there are less conventions. With that being said let’s get to know today’s guest Mega Mite.

1.What were you like growing up? What were some of the things you were into as a child/teenager?

I was pretty much like everyone else, not knowing who I was as a person and trying to figure it all out. Some of the things that I was and am still into were Pokemon, Sailor Moon, video games, anime, etc. most of the things that to this day complete me as a person.

2. Who or what got you into cosplaying?

There are a couple of dear friends that have contributed to me solidifying my cosplay hobby and my first who is a friend from high school who cosplayed as Soi Fon and myself as Yoruichi from Bleach. It was something to cross off our bucket lists. The second who is also a friend from college and she still inspires me to pursue greater cosplay heights than I ever expected from myself.

3. Nachetanya from Braves of the Six Flowers was your first time using worbla. Did you face any challenges when using Worbla?

I faced so many challenges when making Nachetanya. Her build looked simple enough, but it’s always the simple ones that have the surprises. I had no idea how to make a breastplate and hers is slightly different from the average breastplate armor, lol. Everything else was pretty straightforward after that and burning my fingers multiple times. I did love that I got to work with different types of worbla, because I wanted to try them to see which one matched with my working style. My favorite worbla to work with would be black worbla, it’s so smooth and easy for me to shape without getting those pesky seam lines.

4. How did you come up with the hashtag mooniemonday?

I didn’t come up with this hashtag, it’s actually a hashtag for Sailor Moon cosplayers that post on a Monday!

5. Continuing from there, what went into your Luna cosplay? The details on it are fantastic.

A lot of time and love went into creating Luna. I wanted to create her gown, but I wanted it to be a reflection of my tastes as a cosplayer. I used a lot of different reference photos to come up with the design on top of her original design. I also played around with different color palettes and realized that there was wiggle room for creativity with the colors or fabric. It took around roughly a month to create because I wasn’t that experienced with cosplay and I didn’t want to mess anything up by rushing.

6. Off topic question, favorite food?

I love Thai food – it’s my absolute favorite food to eat. Korean and Japanese are a close second.

7. What is one thing cosplay has taught you about yourself?

It has taught me to be forgiving and to have fun – I always start projects off slow because I feel they have to be a certain way. As I create more and more cosplays, I started to realize that I don’t have to put that much emphasis on perfection and to allow myself to just enjoy the process.

8. Any advice for black cosplayers starting out?

No one can make you feel less than but yourself. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks of you and not everyone will like you regardless of what you do – so keep on doing what you love. Don’t waste your valuable energy and time on people who don’t even have your best interests at heart. If you truly want to do cosplay, the only person stopping you is you. That being said, there will be times when you do want to give up and it may definitely be difficult pursuing cosplay as a black cosplayer, but the only limitations that are placed on you are the ones that have been placed by you.

9. Second off topic question. With the rumors of Overwatch 2 possibly being announced at Blizzcon. What’s something you hope to be in this game if it’s true? Seeing your POTG videos as D.Va. I feel D.Va could use some more skins.

I’m really itching for a story mode – it would be awesome! I don’t want the current Overwatch to be dismissed and not updated because of the new one though. If they can combine it with the current one, that would be amazing.

10. What conventions can people find you at later this year?

We shall see! I have a few that I am considering.

11. Can you hint at any cosplays you have in the works?

I am currently working on CCS Sakura’s outfits and going to start soon on Sailor Moon, as well as Sailor Pluto!

12. Final question, anything you want to say to your fans?

Thank you for all of your support and I couldn’t have gotten so far without it! I hope to bring even more cosplays in the near future and I hope to continue cosplaying for a while!
