February 2022 Nintendo Direct Streamed

Earlier today, Nintendo streamed a new Nintendo Direct that focused on several games that will be apart of the 2022 schedule and beyond. Whereas, pre-orders will be available on the Nintendo eShop starting today for several of these revealed game titles.

The highlights include:

First, the direct revealed that a new Fire Emblem Warriors game is in the works. The new game is titled, “Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes,” and as the name suggests the game will focus on the characters from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The game will be set in the same world from that game and it will launch on June 24, 2022. Next, the direct took a look at Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp. The video featured a look at the various offline and online modes. In addition, Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp will be released on April 8, 2022. Third, the direct revealed that No Man’s Sky will be released for the Nintendo Switch. For those who are unaware, the game is a survival open world game that was released worldwide on PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows in August 2016. Also, the game also was released on the Xbox One in July 2018. Eventually, it was later released for the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X in November 2020. The game will launch for the Nintendo Switch this Summer.

 

Then the direct revealed the latest title in the “Mario Strikers” franchise. The game will be titled, “Mario Strikers Battle League,” and will feature a variety of different modes including an Online Club Mode, which will allow up to 20 players. This is a surprising reveal as the last title in the franchise titled, “Super Mario Strikers Charged Wii,” that released on the Nintendo Wii in 2007. So, it has been quite some time since the last game was released. Nevertheless, Mario Strikers Battle League will be released on June 10. The fifth reveal was a new co-op mode for Splatoon 3 titled, “Splatoon 3: Salmon Run Next Wave.” While the game is similar to Splatoon 2’s version of the mode, it will feature a variety of new abilities and bosses. Splatoon 3 will be released in Summer 2022.

 

The sixth direct reveal was that a remake of the first two “Front Mission” games will be released for the Nintendo Switch. For those who are unaware, the first game was released for the Super Famicon exclusively in Japan in 1995. However, oversea fans would not be able to experience the game officially until the DS port in 2007. Whereas, the second game was released only in Japan for the PlayStation 1 in 1997. So, this will be the first time fans outside of Japan will be able to experience the game. Front Mission 1st: Remake will be released in Summer 2022, while the sequel will be released at a later date. Following that the direct revealed a look at a new Disney/ Pixar related combat racer titled, “Disney Speedstorm.” The game will feature online and offline co-op with split screen, and will be released in Summer 2022. Additionally, the game will also feature crossplay on multiple systems.

 

Then the eighth reveal was that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be released for the Nintendo Switch on April 20, 2022. The game will feature updated controls and features based on the Nintendo Wii version of the game. Whereas, the online battle mode will also be making a return in this version of the game. That was followed by the Assassin’s Creed Ezio Collection reveal, which will release for the Nintendo Switch on February 17. For those who are not familiar with the collection it will include:

  • Assassin’s Creed II
  • Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood
  • Assassin’s Creed: Revelations
  • Single DLC player content from all three games
  • Bonus short films

 

The tenth reveal was for a new Gundam action RPG titled, “SD Gundam Battle Alliance.” However, while the direct did not feature many details about the game, the game will launch later this year. Then the direct revealed that a remaster of Chrono Cross will be released on the Nintendo Switch. As the name suggests the game is a remaster of Chrono Cross, which was released for the Playstation in North America in 2000. The game will also feature the Radical Dreamers text based RPG, which was released exclusively on the Satellaview in 1996. Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition will be released on April 7. That was followed by a new trailer for Kirby and The Forgotten Land. The latest trailer featured a look at the new copy abilities along with an alternate copy ability type known as “Mouthful Mode.” This ability will allow Kirby to swallow various objects and use them to become various other “Mouth” abilities such as “Car Mouth.” Players will also need to save Waddle Dees in order to fill up Waddle Dee Town. In the town players will be able to purchase the traditional Kirby abilities, which can be used in combos with other abilities similar to what was seen in Kirby and the Crystal Shards. Kirby and The Forgotten Land will be released on March 25, 2022.

 

Moving along, the direct revealed that MLB the Show 22 will be released for the Nintendo Switch on April 25th. Then the direct featured another look at Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece for Cloud, which releases tomorrow. That was followed by the announcement that the first two Klonoa games which are coming to the Nintendo Switch. Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series will be released on July 8. Next the direct revealed that a collection of the Portal games will be released for the Nintendo Switch. Titled, Portal Companion Edition the game will be released later this year.

 

Eventually, the direct revealed that a remaster for Live A Live is coming to the Nintendo Switch. The game will be in the style of Octopath Traveler, and it will be the first time the game has officially been released in the West. The game originally released for the Super Famicom in 1994, and remaster will release on July 22, 2022. Then the direct revealed a new game in the “Nintendo Sports” franchise will be released for the Nintendo Switch. The game will feature a variety of different sports from the previous titles as well as some new ones. The physical version of the game will include a leg strap, which can be used for some of the sports. Nintendo Switch Sports will be released on April 29, 2022. Whereas, the game will receive free updates including the first one in this summer, and another in the Fall. An online play test will be available for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, which will run from February 18 to 20.

 

The next batch of announcements began with Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival which will release on the Nintendo Switch later this year. The base game will feature 76 tracks and a paid in game DLC will be available at launch that will feature over 500 songs. Next, the direct revealed a new trailer for Square Enix’s Triangle Strategy. A demo of the game will be available later today, and players can transfer their save files to the full title once it releases. The game will be released later in 2022. Then the direct revealed that the Cuphead – The Delicious Last Course DLC will be released on June 30.

 

Moving along the direct revealed that a free update will be available for Metroid Dread starting today. Players will be able to play “Dread Mode,” which will make Samus only be able to be hit only once and a “Rookie Mode,” which will be an easier for players. A Boss Rush mode will also be available in April 2022. That was followed by the reveal that Earthbound and Earthbound Beginnings will be available for the Nintendo Switch Online subscribers starting today via their respective services. Also, the direct showcased several games coming to Nintendo Switch, which include:

  • Zombie Army 4: Dead War – April 26
  • GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon – Later Today
  • Demon Slayer – Kimetsu No Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles – June 10
  • Lego Brawls – June 2022
  • Two Point Campus – May 17

Then the direct that some new DLC is coming to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The Booster Course Pass will feature 48 courses, which will be released in sets of 8. The courses will consist of several returning courses from the previous Mario Kart titles. Some of the courses featured were Coconut Mall (Mario Kart Wii) and Choco Mountain (Mario Kart 64), just to name a few. The DLC will be released on March 18 and it is priced at $24.99. Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members will be able to experience this DLC with no extra cost. Lastly, the direct revealed a look at Xenoblade Chronicles 3. While not much is known about the title at this time it will be released in September 2022.
