“Final Fantasy IX” Animated Series in the Works

Earlier today, Kidscreen reported that a Final Fantasy IX animated series is in the works. According to the reports Cyber Group will be teaming up with Square Enix to making animated series based on the game targeted for an 8-13 age demographic. Additionally, the company will also be in charge of “…worldwide distribution, licensing, and merchandise.” While not much else is known about the project at this time production is set to start by the end of 2021 or early 2022.

For those who are not familiar with Final Fantasy IX, the game launched originally for the Playstation in 2000. As the name suggests the game is the ninth title in the long running Final Fantasy game series.

The official Final Fantasy website provided a description for the game.

Zidane and the Tantalus Theater Troupe have kidnapped Princess Garnet, the heir of Alexandria. To their surprise, however, the princess herself yearned to escape the castle.

Through a series of unusual circumstances, she and her personal guard, Steiner, fall in with Zidane and set out on an incredible journey. Meeting unforgettable characters like Vivi and Quina along the way, they learn about themselves, the secrets of the Crystal, and a malevolent force that threatens to destroy their world.
