Final Super Smash Bros Ultimate Direct Streamed

Nintendo has recently held their final Nintendo Direct presentation that focuses on Super Smash Bros Ultimate. The direct featured a high amount of content including new character reveals, details about the modes, and more. For those who are interested in viewing the direct can do so with the video embedded below.

First, Masahiro Sakurai revealed the final two main characters that will be apart of the main roster. The first character Sakurai revealed was Ken, who will be an echo fighter to Ryu. Incineroar will be the final brand new fighter to the game, which will bring the roster up to around 74 characters.

Next, it has been revealed the the starting roster when players load up the game will indeed consist of the main fighters featured in the first Super Smash Bros. game outside of the unlockables.

Thirdly, the Amiibo release schedule was revealed featuring some of the upcoming Amiibo. The next wave of Amiibo will consist of King K. Rool and the Ice Climbers, which will release on February 15, 2019. The third wave will consist of Isabelle, Pichu, Ken, Young Link, and Daisy, which is set to release sometime in 2019.

Fourthly, the direct featured a look at the new Spirits mode, which will replace the typical trophy mode featured in the previous games. Spirits will represent the special characters that will be able to lend a helping hand to players. The Spirits will have various classes and players can obtain new Spirits via the Spirit Battles or by combining them. The Spirit Battles are battles that will feature opponents with special conditions. Spirits can also be powered up in a way that looks very similar to the Amiibo upgrade system in Smash Bros U/ 3DS. Spirits can also be trained at the Dojo and the Gym. 

Fifthly, the direct featured a look at the online mode. Players will be able to connect to each other locally with their own Nintendo Switches and can also play online. Players will be able to set preferred rules and the game will be able to match players will similar rules online. Global Smash Power will also factor into online matchmaking and will also can be used as a leader board. Players who have a high enough rank can enter Elite Battles. Players will also be able to obtain Smash Tags and players will be able to play a limited amount of other modes while looking for opponents online.

Sixth, it has been revealed that players will be able to use the Nintendo Online app to communicate with players online and a new app called Smash World where players can share gameplay videos and more.

Seventh, the direct took a look at several new assist trophies. It has been revealed that game will feature 59 Assist Trophies.

  • Takamaru (The Mysterious Murasame Castle)
  • Starman (Mother Series)
  • Nightmare (Kirby Series)
  • Color Tv-Game 15
  • Yuri Kozukata (Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water)
  • Isaac (Golden Sun Series)
  • Black Knight (Fire Emblem Series)
  • Thwomp (Super Mario Series)
  • Spring Man (Arms)
  • Wily Capsule (Mega Man Series)
  • Flies & Hand (Mario Paint)
  • Tiki (Fire Emblem Series)
  • Vince 
  • Guile (Street Fighter Series)
  • Akira (Virtua Fighter Series)

Eighth, the direct featured a look at Century Smash and All-Star Smash. Century Smash will allow fighters to fight against multiple spawning opponents. All-Star Smash will be making a return in Smash Bros Ultimate, however players will now be able to play the mode off the bat instead of only be able to access the mode after all characters are unlocked like in the previous titles.

Ninth, the direct revealed that the game will feature more languages than ever before. The game will feature Japanese, English, French, Spanish, German, Italian Dutch, Russian, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), and Korean. 

Tenth, the direct took a look at Custom Balance, where players will be able to adjust the strength of fighters. This feature will not be able online or wireless play.

Eleventh, the direct took a look at the Mii Fighters. The game will feature new voice options and a slew of new outfits.

  • Viga Clan Set (The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild)
  • Splatoon 2 Set
  • Ribbon Girl Set (Arms)
  • Chibi Robo Set
  • Ray MkIII Set (Custom Robo Series)
  • Toy-Con Set

Twelfth, the direct revealed that the game will indeed feature DLC content. Each DLC set will include one new fighter, one stage, and several music tracks. It is confirmed that there will be five DLC sets and each set will be priced at $5.99. Fighters Pass will also be available, which will be priced at $24.99. Those who purchase the Fighters Pass will also obtain an exclusive Rex costume, which can be used for their Mii Fighters.

Thirteenth, the direct revealed one final new fighter, which will be a free download at launch. It has been revealed that a Piranha Plant will be a new fighter to the roster via DLC. The Piranha Plant will have various tricky attacks and it’s final smash will be Petey Piranha. Players who purchase the game physically will need to register their game in order to download this DLC fighter. Players will need to register their game by 11:59 PM PT on January 31, 2019 in order to receive a code for the fighter. An Amiibo for the Piranha Plant will also be available on February 15, 2019.

Lastly, the direct featured a look at the new “story mode” for the game, which will be titled the“World of Light.”
