Finn Wittrock Cast as Guy Gardner in HBO Max “Green Lantern” Series

Deadline has reported that Finn Wittrock has been cast as Guy Gardner in the upcoming Green Lantern series that is being produced for HBO Max. The series will be written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Seth Grahame-Smith. The team will also serve as executive producers on the project. Sarah Schechter, David Madden, David Katzenberg, Elizabeth Hunter, and Sara Saedi will serve as co-executive producers. The series will feature the various Green Lanterns throughout the history of DC comics including the first Green Lantern, Alan Scott, Guy Gardner, a half alien Lantern named Bree Jarta, and more. According to Deadline, the series will feature a variety of Green Lanterns that were featured in the comics as well as “…never-before-seen heroes.”

In the comics, Guy Gardner is a well known member of the Green Lantern Corps. He was created by John Broome and Gil Kane Green. The character made his debut appearance in Lantern Vol 2 #59, which was released in March, 1968. The character would soon get a character change in the 1980s by Steve Engleheart and Joe Station, who re-envisioned the character as the all-american jock stereotype given life. He’s brash, arrogant, and overbearing, but he’s still got a heroic soul. In the Pre-Flashpoint timeline, Gardner spent months in a coma after an accident in the Phantom Zone. A faction of the Guardians of the Universe gave him a new ring and purpose prior to the Crisis on Infinite Earths.

No other details about the project are confirmed at this time so stay tuned for updates.
