Holiday Buyer’s Guide 2017 Day 3: Comics & Manga

Welcome readers to the annual Holiday Buyers’ Guide! Today, is the third part in this five-part series, part-three focuses on our picks for comics and manga. Getting kids into comics at an early age should help get them to read more. They will be entertained, and maybe learn something from the stories. However, this year our manga choices may not be suitable for all ages, but the comics surely are!

 

Comics:

  • DC’s Mister Miracle Issue #1 MSRP: $3.99

This maybe one of the strangest comics from DC this year! The Mister Miracle series will take readers on an incredible trip, making them question what they just read… however, it will be an amazing way!

 

  • BOOM Studios Go Go Power Rangers Issue #1 MSRP: $3.99

In the days before Day of the Dumpster, see how the Ranger were like before receiving their powers. In addition, see the Rangers in their first rescue mission.

 

  • DC’s Super Son Issue #1 MSRP: $3.99

Damien Wayne, and Jon Kent find it hard living in their parents’ shadow. However, the two decide maybe it is time trying to work together like their fathers.

 

  • Marvel’s Two-in-One MSRP: $3.99

The Fantastic Four are no more! However, the two that remain, The Human Torch, and The Thing attempt to continue its legacy. Yet, the two believe Mr. Fantastic, and the Invisible Woman, still exist! Thus, they begin their search to reunite the team…

 

  • IDW First Strike 1 – 6 MSRP: $3.99 per issue

First Strike is the sequel to IDW’s Revolution, a crossover event that trust their heroes into a civil war. Now, one year after the event all teams have come together. Yet, the now must unravel a conspiracy that is afoot! The prologue, Issue 0, is currently free for fans to download and read.

 

Manga

  • Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt Vol. 3 – 5 MSRP: $14.99 per volume

The battle for the Thunderbolt Sector takes an interesting turn, as both squads are sent to Earth! There both fleets soon encounter one another yet again, rekindling the rivalry between Io and Daryl. However, this time both pilots must learn to master all-new Mobile Suits.

 

  • Pokémon XY Complete Box Set MSRP: $54.99

Loosely based on Pokémon X & Y the games, the manga follows X a Pokémon training prodigy who lost his way. However, once Team Flare attacks with the Legendary Pokémon, Xerneas and Yveltal, X’s hometown! The attack it reignites X’s spirit to become a Pokémon Trainer. X journeys with his friend Y, and together they seek to stop Team Flare.

 

  • Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Glory of the Losers Vol. 1 – 3 MSRP: $12.95 per Volume

Hardcore Gundam fans call this the definitive version of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing; Glory of the Losers incorporates elements from the various side stories, as well as adds stuff not seen in the original anime. Now, that does not mean the story, or its ending will change, it just means the narrative and characters will be developed further. In addition, Mobile Suit designs are modeled and drawn off the Endless Waltz designs… so most American fans will buy into this manga title quickly due to nostalgia!

 

  • Devilman Grimoire Vol. 1 MSRP: $12.99

Go Nagai’s infamous demonic demon slayer returns when a high schooler, Miki, attempts to summon a demon. However, it terribly goes wrong as Miki brings forth the legendary demon, Amon, who possesses her friend Akira. Amon brings forth a massacre and turns Tokyo blood red. Now, Devilman must set forth to stop this hellish invasion!

 

  • Ghost in the Shell Deluxe Complete Box Set MSRP: $79.99

The complete box set for the iconic, Ghost in the Shell series! Where further into the twenty-first century the line between man and machine is blurred. Mankind has become reliant on mechanical implants, and enhancements which alters the world. Follow, cyborg super-agent, Major Motoko Kusanagi who tracks down the most dangerous cybercriminals, and terrorists the world faces.
