Kana Hanazawa Cast as Lead Role in Professor Layton Anime Adaptation

Level-5 has recently announced that Kana Hanazawa has been cast as the lead role in the upcoming anime adaptation of the Professor Layton video game series.  The series titled, “Layton Detective Agency ~Katrielle’s Mystery Solving File~ (Layton Mystery Tanteisha ~Katrie no Nazotoki File~) will premiere in Japan in April 2018. The game series previously received an anime film adaptation in 2009 tilted, “Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva,” however this will be first televised anime adaption for the franchise.

The series will will feature Professor Layton’s daugther, Katrielle Layton, as the main character.  Those who have been following the game series will recognize her from the recent game in the series titled, “Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy,” which was released earlier this year in July.  Katrielle was voiced by Kasumi Arimura in the game.

Level-5 also provided an official visual and also revealed the production cast.

 

The production cast consists of:

  • Akihiro Hino: Creative Director/Original Story, Series Composition
  • Susumu Misunaka: Director
  • Takuzou Nagano: Original Character Designer
  • Utako Takada: Anime Character Designer
  • Liden Films: Anime Production

Hanazawa had this to say about her involvement in the project.

“It is an honor for me to be involved in the ‘Layton’ series’ first TV anime. I’m already

looking forward to seeing what kind of mystery I can find with Katrie! I would like to sincerely play Katrie

as a cheerful, positive and lovely character, so I’ll do my best!!!!!!”
