Luke Wilson Joins DC Universe “Stargirl” Cast

Deadline has reported that Luke Wilson will be joining the cast of the DC Universe exclusive Stargirl series. Wilson will be portraying Pat Dugan who is the pilot of S.T.R.I.P.E.

For those who are not aware, Patrick “Pat” Dugan was created by Jerry Siegal and Hal Sherman. The character was first introduced in Action Comics #40, which was released in September 1941.

The confirmed cast so far includes:

  • Brec Bassinger: Stargirl
  • Joel McHale: Starman (Sylvester Pemberton)
  • Lou Ferrigno Jr.: Hourman (Rex Tyler)
  • Brian Stapf: Wildcat (Ted Grant)
  • Luke Wilson: Pat Dugan/  S.T.R.I.P.E.
  • Anjelika Washington: TBA
  • Henry Thomas: Dr. Mid-Nite (Dr. Charles McNider)
  • Joy Osmanski: Tigress (Paula Brooks)
  • Neil Hopkins: Sportsmaster (Lawrence “Crusher” Crock)
  • Nelson Lee: Dragon King

Showrunner Geoff Johns had this to say about Wilson’s inclusion on the project.

“When I first moved to Los Angeles in 1996 and saw Bottle Rocket, I became a huge fan and admirer of Luke’s,” Johns said “And I literally wrote this part for Luke, hoping that someday and somehow he’d play Pat Dugan. I onlyenvisioned him. And now I feel like I won the lottery! Luke’s talent, humor, compassion — his presence and professionalism — and his creative collaboration, his ideas — we’re so lucky to have him alongside Brec in Stargirl.”

Deadline also provided a description for the character

…“Pat Dugan once went by the less-than-inspired superhero name of Stripesy, sidekick to a young hero known as the Star-Spangled-Kid and later Starman of the legendary Justice Society of America. Today, Pat has left his sidekick life behind him. But when his new step-daughter, Courtney Whitmore, discovers Pat’s secret past and takes on Starman’s legacy to become Stargirl, Pat is forced to come out of retirement and once again become a sidekick — to his step-daughter — this time piloting a 15-foot robot called Stripe.”

No other details are confirmed at this time so stay tuned for updates. The DC Universe Stargirl series will premiere on the platform in 2019.
