Review

Our issue begins with the flashback seen in the preview, where Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa are locked in combat. Immediately, seeing this scene makes me wish the comics could be animated one day, or have it recreated in live-action. Especially, since this flashback features the characters in their prime, which was something not focused on in the television series. The opening panels of their clash tells a story that does not require words, and readers can feel their conflict. Also, I think what helps to convey their battle is heavily thanks to the colors used by Raúl Angulo. Whereas, the dialogue written by Melissa Flores, is something I could expect from these versions of the characters. Furthermore, my mind even hears Axelrod and Goodson saying something like this if the series was not restricted for kids.

We then transition to the present day, where we head on over to Safehaven and the Command Center. Here readers get a better understanding of the current situation that our heroes are facing, as tension rises. At the moment it really feels as though the Rangers need to achieve victory, or else the universe is doomed. Thankfully, this is something I have come to love about the comics, as the stakes are more than the Earth. So, with these situations and stakes in place, it allows writers to focus on the concept of ‘teenagers with attitude.’ Especially, when both, Kimberly and Tommy decide to go their own ways to oppose Zordon’s decisions. Coincidentally, the split screen panel regarding their defiance is conveyed perfectly by Simona Di Gianfelice’s art, and Raúl Angulo’s colors.

Afterwards, there is an interesting conversation between Zordon and Grace Sterling about the looming threat. Surprisingly, I love their dynamic since they are the oldest members here trying to save the world. However, they have their own perspective on how things should operate which leads to these interesting and reoccurring debates. Also, I think neither of them are wrong, even when Zordon has more years and experience than Grace. Yet, once their discussion concludes, we quickly return to Safehaven, as it is being invaded by Alpha-1. Here, Simona Di Gianfelice really gets to showoff the scale of Omega Rangers’ Omegazords. Whereas, Raúl Angulo’s use of colors makes it easy for readers to follow the actions of Rangers and Zords.

Finally, this issue ends on showing why the comics version of Lord Zedd is not someone to be taken lightly. Although, without saying too much, Lord Zedd manages to break out of his prison with mere ease, shocking Promethea’s force. Ultimately, it all leads to a sight that I was not expecting to ever see, but here we are. Anyway, I will not say anymore regarding what I saw, and will let readers discover things on their own. However, our very own, ZeltraxMillennium will have a full in-depth review later this week for those interested in alternative opinion. Overall, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #106 is a solid issue, and I am looking forward to next month’s issue.

Final score: 4 out of 5 Power Coins
