Earlier this morning Sunrise held a special Mobile Suit Gundam 40th Anniversary presentation which revealed new details about the 40th Anniversary project, and international fans were able to see the live stream via Gundam.info. Now, while the stream did not feature any subtitles, Gundam.info provided details about the project on their official website. In addition, Hero Club last night held a corresponding live reaction stream for the event on the site’s official Twitch channel. The 40th Anniversary project will start in 2019 and will continue through 2020, those who are interested in viewing the official presentation can do so down below.
The project’s tagline is “BEYOND!” and as a commemoration for the 40th anniversary, Sunrise revealed new official visuals that features several past Gundam projects.
The visuals feature the following “crossovers”
- “Mobile Suit Gundam” – “Mobile Suit Gundam UC”
- “Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-blooded Orphans” – “Mobile Suit Gundam 00”
- “Mobile Suit Gundam Wing” – “Mobile Suit Z Gundam”
- “Gundam Reconguista in G” -“Mobile Suit Gundam THE ORIGIN”
Sunrise also revealed the first five works that will be apart of the project.
First, it has been revealed that Mobile Suit Gundam THE ORIGIN will be receiving a televised version in 2019. The six theatrical films will be condensed into a 13 episode series that will feature new edits. SUGIZO will be producing the opening and ending theme songs for the series. The series will premiere in April 2019 and will air on NHK Terrestrial. LUNA SEA will be working on future Gundam project opening songs.
Next, it has been revealed that a new Gundam Build project is in the works that will serve as a sequel to Gundam Build Divers. Due to the project being in it’s early development phase at this time no other details have been confirmed.
Thirdly, a new project based on the SD Gundam franchise is in the works titled, “SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden.” The project will commemorate the 30th anniversary of the SD Gundam franchise. No other details about the project has been confirmed at this time.
Fourthly, it has been revealed that Gundam Reconguista in G will be receiving a theatrical cut that will also feature brand new footage. The film will be screened in theaters in Japan in 2019. It has also been revealed that Yoshiyuki Tomino will also appear at “JAPAN EXPO,” which will be held in Paris, France.
Lastly, Sunrise revealed that a new film trilogy is in the works titled, “Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash.” The film trilogy will depicts events seen in Yoshiyuki Tomino’s 1989 novel of the same name. The film trilogy is also the second part of the “UC NexT 0100” project. A trailer for the film trilogy will be released during the nationwide roadshow of “Mobile Suit Gundam NT” that will be held on November 30.
