Netflix to Produce Cowboy Bebop Live-Action Series

Variety has reported that Netflix will help produce the live-action series adaptation of the Cowboy Bebop anime series. For those who are not aware Cowboy Bebop is an anime series produced by Sunrise in 1998. The series was directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, who will be supervising the upcoming live-action series adaptation.

Cowboy Bebop focuses on a rag tag group of bounty hunters who are aboard a flying ship called the Bebop. The series told the adventures of Spike Spiegel, Jet Black, Faye Valentine, and Radical Ed as they explore the stars searching for dangerous criminals.

The anime series consisted of 26 episodes and it also received a film titled, Cowboy Bebop: Knockin’ on Heavens Door or simply Cowboy Bebop: The Movie as it known in North America. The series was originally released by Bandai Entertainment in North America and the series later received a new home video release by Funimation Entertainment.  The series also aired on Adult Swim in North America.

Netflix also provided a short teaser announcement on their official Twitter page.

The live-action series adaptation was in the works since 2017 by Tomorrow Studios. The first season is set to consist of 10 episodes.

Yasuo Miyakawa, Masayuki Ozaki, Shin Sasaki (Sunrise Inc.), Andre Nemec, Josh Appelbaum, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg (Midnight Radio) will work as executive producers on the project. Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements (Tomorrow Studios), Tetsu Fujimura, and Matthew Weinberg will also work as executive producers.

No other details are confirmed at this time so stay tuned for updates.
