New Creative Team Coming to Boom Studios MMPR Comic

It’s Morphin Time as the Boom! Studios Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comics will be having a massive shake up in September. First off, Kyle Higgins, Daniele Di Nicuolo, and Walter Baiamonte will no longer be the creative team for the series. Issue 31 will start the run featuring Marguerite Bennett becoming the writer of the series with Simone Di Meo stepping in as the artist. I can not be more excited for this passing of the torch. Kyle, Daniele, and Walter have been doing an amazing job since this series started and really helped make it feel like a celebration of Power Rangers. With the new creative team coming in, we are in good hands. Marguerite is known for her phenomenal run on DC Comics Bombshell series, and by looking at Simone’s artwork, this is going to be fun.

Another big surprise is that were getting a new team to focus on when this run starts with MMPR #31. The arc itself is titled “Beyond The Grid” with the image above showing us our new roster. We have Ranger Slayer, Magna Defender, Tanya, Cam, Andros, and finally a Dino Charge themed ranger. For my tokusatsu fans, I am sure they recognize Deathryuger from Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger, but it is interesting that here the character will be canon. Also in an interview Marguerite said the following when it comes to this team:

“I am just over here boiling slowly with the desire to just…have you ever seen The Road to El Dorado? The movie? Okay well there’s a scene where Cortez is cracking his knuckles and he goes, “My crew was as carefully chosen as the Disciples of Christ and I will not tolerate stowaways.” And that’s how I feel about how I chose these characters. I’m dying for the chance to defend my decisions so, soon. Soon I promise you,”

So as a fan, I am really interested in this team and their dynamic. Also in another interview on comicbook.com. Higgins said the following about this team:

“Well I guess, we can probably frame it from the standpoint of, there are things coming up in the finale of Shattered Grid that are going to make this new team of Power Rangers not only possible but necessary,”

Overall, I have not been this excited about a team change in such a long time. I know Power Rangers is going to be in safe hands come September.
