SD Gundam fans rejoice as today we have more details on the SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden project that was first announced at the Mobile Suit Gundam’s 40th Anniversary Project launch event on November 21, 2018. Now, this year, 2019, is not only the 40th anniversary for Gundam as a whole, but also the 30th anniversary for the SD Gundam franchise. There have been several teasers released for SD Gundam World in the past several months, but today we have a breakdown of the Anime and Manga series that are releasing this year.
Sunrise has opened a Gundam Info sub-site focusing on SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden. The website provides us with an official synopsis of the story for the project.
Repeated warfare has destroyed countries that once prospered gloriously, leaving the land in ruins. Just when revival is in sight, an epidemic of the mysterious Yellow Zombie Virus breaks out. The virus carriers lose themselves and start attacking people. The survivors are forced to live inside fortified cities for protection. However, behind closed walls, the lord Dong Zhuo has been acting in an outrageous manner since the passing of the previous lord. As if drawn together by destiny, Liu Bei Unicorn Gundam meets Guan Yu Nu Gundam and Zhang Fei God Gundam and decides to save the world.
Eventually, the passion of the three young men will bring about great change in the world. The new heroes unveil a new chapter in history!
SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden Animation
In a new video posted today on the Gundam Info YouTube channel, we have our first look and details for the SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden anime series. The series is set to begin on July 2019, presumably on the GundamInfo website and YouTube channel as no network is listed on the website. The anime will be directed by Takahiro Ikezoe with story structure by Toko Machida. The official description of the anime is as follows:
A completely new original animation produced by SUNRISE. The swashbuckling saga of men who have hidden their beliefs in their hearts is now unveiled!
Sunrise has also released a teaser poster for the anime series which includes the three main characters of the series, the Liu Bei Unicorn Gundam of the Shu Area, the Cao Cao Wing Gundam of the Wei Area and the Sun Jin Gundam Astray of the Wu Area.
SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden Comic
Two SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden comics will be released beginning in April 2019. The two comics will be known as SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden SOSHIKI and SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden ENKOTAN.
SOSHIKI depicts the story from the perspective of the Cao Cao Wing Gundam and the Wei Area beginning with Cao Cao’s upbringing. SHOSHIKI will also be published in Explorer Publishing’s LUCKY magazine in Hong Kong. New chapters of the comic will be released on the website on the 10th of every month beginning in April 2019.
ENKOTAN depicts the story of the Sun Jin Gundam Astray and the Wu Area. The teaser poster for this comic also features the Liu Bei Unicorn Gundam so it is likely to say he will be making an appearance in this comic as well. ENKOTAN will be illustrated by manga artist Naoto Tsushima. New chapters of the comic will be released on the website on the third Friday of every month beginning in April 2019.
SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden Story and Characters
With the story of SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden being based upon Romance of the Three Kingdoms, a historical chinese novel series, there are three factions fighting for control.
The website provides a breakdown of all the known characters and motivations for each faction. The three lands are Shu, Wei and Wu with the Luoyang faction not having their own distinctive area on the map.
Shu Area:
The area where Liu Bei Unicorn Gundam and others live. The area does not boast a large supply of Trinity, but the vigilante group “Dragon’s Watch” is successful in keeping peace in the area. “Dragon’s Watch“, of which Liu Bei Unicorn Gundam is a member of, offers protection from Yellow Zombie Virus carriers.

Wei Area:
An area ruled by the monopoly “Blue Wing Corporation”. Their Trinity supply is the highest of all the areas, and they are the most developed of the fortified cities.

Wu Area:
The base of operations for “Red Tiger“, the distribution guild led by Sun Jian Gundam Astray. Most of the people living in Red Tiger‘s aircraft carrier are members of this guild. They are involved in a variety of businesses such as distribution, and day after day, they fight the Yellow Zombie Virus carriers that pose a threat to their livelihood. As they are an aircraft carrier, they have a low Trinity supply, possessing more than only the Shu Area.
- Sun Jian Gundam Astray (Lord)
Luoyang:
Dong Zhuo Providence Gundam rules over this land as its lord. Though its Trinity supply is massive compared to the other areas, Dong Zhuo Providence Gundam keeps the energy to himself as he lives lavishly while protecting himself from Yellow Zombie Virus carriers.
