Outside of the trailers and promotional information, there wasn’t much to say about the cast of Star Wars: Rogue One until now. Today Entertainment Weekly has started a segment called “Rogue One : A Star Wars Story” where they will unveil concrete details about the characters of Rogue One and more. Today they revealed the identity of Forest Whitaker’s character in the film.

Entertainment Weekly has unveiled that Forest Whitaker will be playing as a character that was featured in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He will be playing Saw Gerrera, a freedom fighter that appeared in a small episode arc in Season 5 of the series. He first appeared in the episode A War on Two Fronts where he, his sister Steela, and a team of rebels fought to free the world of Onderon from the Separatists.
This is quite an amazing feat since this is the first time an animated exclusive character from Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Outside of the clones themselves) has been featured on a live-action production of the franchise. I am personally quite excited for this reveal and I can’t wait to see Star Wars: Rogue One when it hits theaters this winter.
