Interesting bit of news has been revealed thanks to the site Sponichi. According to Sponichi, the usual 7:30 A.M. airing of Super Sentai and the 8:00 AM airing of Kamen Rider will no longer be the case starting in October. In October, both Super Sentai and Kamen Rider will be changing their times. The new time slot will go as follows, the new Kamen Rider series, Kamen Rider Build it will start at 9:00 AM followed by the current Sentai, Uchu Sentai Kyuranger at 9:30 AM on Sundays.
This change comes after nearly 20 years of being the same for Super Sentai. Super Sentai first moved to Sundays at the 7:30 AM time slot in 1997 starting with episode 8 of Denji Sentai Megaranger and had not changed since. Then ever since Kamen Rider’s revival with Kamen Rider Kuuga, it took the 8:00 AM time slot. The change comes as a result of a new Sunday morning news program titled, Sunday Live, where Noriyuki Higashiyama of the idol group Shonentai will be a newscaster. Sunday Live’s start time is set to be at 5:50 AM and will be broadcasting for 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this time change is that the programs that these series will be running against! For the new Kamen Rider show, Kamen Rider Build, at 9:00 AM it will be against Dragon Ball Super. Whereas, the 9:30 AM showing of Uchu Sentai Kyuranger will face-off with One Piece. Both of these anime shows airing on Fuji TV, while Kamen Rider and Super Sentai air on TV Asahi. However, the most interesting is that all four shows are products of Toei. Now, what will these time changes do for Kamen Rider’s and Super Sentai’s ratings? And what can it mean for them in the long run? These are questions that we will have to wait to be answered this coming fall.
