Nintendo has recently updated their official Twitter with an announcement that the Illumination Super Mario Movie has been delayed. For those who are not aware, the film was first announced in 2018 and the cast was revealed during the September 2021 Nintendo Direct. Last November it was revealed that Illumination Entertainment was in talks to produce a film based on the Super Mario franchise. Today Nintendo announced that they have partnered up with the company and the producers for the film will be Chris Meledandri, founder of Illumination Entertainment, and Shigeru Miyamato. The film will be distributed worldwide by Universal Pictures and will be co-funding by the company and Nintendo. No other details are confirmed at this time so stay tuned for updates.
