Idris Elba to Portray Deadshot in ‘Suicide Squad’ Sequel

Variety has reported that Idris Elba will be replacing Will Smith as Floyd Lawton aka Deadshot in the upcoming “Suicide Squad” sequel. According to Variety, Will Smith left the project due to scheduling conflicts. The production of the film is set to start this September.  As reported earlier it was revealed that James Gun will be writing the sequel to the 2016 Suicide Squad film.

No other details are confirmed at this time so stay tuned for updates.

This is pretty interesting to hear since it would have been pretty easy to retire Deadshot for the upcoming sequel. With Idris Elba joining the cast, it does make me wonder who else will potentially return. Hopefully we will see more details about the film in the near future.

The tentatively named “Suicide Squad 2” is set to premiere on August 6, 2021.
