Mobile Suit Gundam SEED MSV ECLIPSE Manga & Sequel Film Announced

With the upcoming 20th Anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED as well as the recent opening of the Freedom Gundam at Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Shanghai Jinqiao, Sunrise and Bandai have made several announcements. The overall anniversary project will be known as Mobile Suit Gundam SEED PROJECT ignited and will feature a multitude of media over the next year (or several knowing Sunrise). A sequel film, a video game and a globally released Manga are all in store for fans of the Cosmic Era.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Theatrical Work

The first announcement comes long awaited for Gundam SEED fans. A sequel film to Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny is in the works from series director Fukuda Mitsuo. No other details were provided for the film at this time but with the wording of “sequel” we expect fan favorite characters to return from both series. News of a Gundam SEED movie dates back to the ending of Gundam SEED Destiny in Japan and has been spoken about by actors and producers since with no formal announcement. As this announcement is coming directly from Sunrise, this movie might finally be happening.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Video Game

Development for a new Mobile Suit Gundam SEED video game is underway. No other details were provided as to whether it will be a retelling of the series or a new story. The game is expected to be published by Bandai Namco Games but we will update with more details in the future.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED ECLIPSE

The final big announcement is the most tangible one. Mobile Suit Gundam SEED ECLIPSE is a new MSV (Mobile Suit Variation) project for the Cosmic Era timeline. The project will be anchored by a manga series being published in Japan via Gundam Ace magazine and in English via GundamInfo. This marks the first time a Gundam manga will be released simultaneously in Japanese and English. The story takes places between SEED and SEED Destiny.

C.E. 72 was a unique era which would later be called the “two blank years.” Some call it “the time of peace on thin ice”, and others call it “the break before the oncoming frenzy.” This is the story of an interval. A story that takes place between the two large wars in which members of a hollow unit known as ODR risked their lives.

The featured Mobile Suit of the manga is known as the MVF-X08 Eclipse Gundam. It is a transformable Mobile Suit that can convert into a plane-like Mobile Armor Form. It’s pilot is Tatsumi Hori, a 17-year old Natural who surpasses Coordinators when piloting the Eclipse Gundam. Tatsumi works for an organization called ODR (Orb Disaster Relief Team) alongside his Commander, Miyabi Oto Kiou and fellow pilot Ken Norland Suse.

Naturally, with a new Gundam project, there comes new Gunpla. Releasing in August 2021, the MG 1/100 Scale Eclipse Gundam will release at general retail for 5500 yen. The highly detailed model kit will be able to convert between its Mobile Suit Form and Mobile Armor Form. The Eclipse Gundam is armed with twin Beam Rifles which convert into Beam Sabers as well as a set of Shields with beam abilities. For those long time Gundam SEED MG builders, the Eclipse is built to work with the Strike Gundam’s Striker Packs including the shoulder attachments. At a later time, the Eclipse will receive its own Expansion Pack exclusively on Premium Bandai.

Exciting new projects are on the horizon for fans of Gundam SEED and it looks like Sunrise and Bandai are going to be making it easy for fans around the world to celebrate the 20th anniversary for the series. Stay tuned for updates from Hero-Club.
