Reki Kawahara to Write Original Short Story for Sword Art Online: Alicization Home Video Release

The official Sword Art Online: Alicization anime website has updated with a summary of a brand new short story that will be released with the first Blu-ray/ DVD volume of the series. Franchise creator, Reki Kawahara, will be written the story titled, “Sword Art Online Distant Journey.”

The official website provided the summary of the short story.

In order to save their kidnapped childhood friend Alice, Kirito and Eugeo set out from Rulid Village for the capital, Centoria. As the entrance exam for the Imperial Sword Mastery Academy draws near, the pair stumble into the Bilzen Inn as they hurry along. It’s been several years since the inn closed, and the owner is still missing. When Kirito learns this, he encourages a reluctant Eugeo to investigate with him for the night. That night, Kirito wakes up to see the figure of a girl with transparent arms and legs–!
“Mister… Aren’t you afraid of me?”

What is the truth behind this “ghost” who has appeared before Kirito and Eugeo?

The first volume of the series will contain the first three episodes of the series and will be released in Japan on January 30, 2019. For those who are not aware Sword Art Online: Alicization is the third season of the anime series. Similar to the previous two seasons the series is an anime adaptation of Kawahara and Abec’s novel of the same name. The series premiered in Japan on October 6. The series is currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll, Hulu, and on FunimationNow.
