Star Trek vs. Transformers Crossover Miniseries Announced

iO9 has reported that IDW Publishing will be publishing a comic miniseries that features both Star Trek characters and the Transformers. The new crossover miniseries titled, “Star Trek vs. Transformers,” will feature the bridge crew on the U.S.S. Enterprise based on their appearances from Star Trek: The Animated Series, and the Transformers from The Transformers, aka Generation One.

For those who are unfamiliar with the series, Star Trek: The Animated Series was produced by Filmation and premiered in 1973. The series took place after the events of Star Trek: The Original Series and featured the return of the main cast now voicing their characters. Unfortunately, the series was short lived and only ran for 22 episodes with it’s final episode airing on October 12, 1974.

The Transformers was the first animated series based on the Transformers brand, which premiered in 1984. Unlike Star Trek: The Animated Series, the series ran for four seasons and consisted of 98 episodes. The series was originally going to last two seasons, however due to high sales of the toys after the premiere of The Transformers: The Movie, a third season was produced. The fourth season of the series was to continue the events after season three, however as the popularity of the brand began to diminish, the series was cancelled causing the fourth season to only consist of three episodes.

The series is set to release this September and will run for four issues. John Barber and Mike Johnson will work as the writers for the project. Philip Murphy and Leonardo Ito will be working on the illustrations.

IO9 also provided a description to the new comic miniseries.

The series will begin in the Star Trek universe, when the U.S.S. Enterprise answers a distress call on the edge of Klingon Space, only to find a dilithium mine under attack from 20th century-era jets and helicopters. When a certain red truck shows up to lend a hand, however, Kirk and the crew discover that there’s more than meets the eye to their new vehicular friends and foes.
