Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers Film Teaser Streamed

Earlier today, Disney released a teaser trailer for “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.” While it was initially believed that the film was going to follow suit of the live-action Disney film reboots it seems this will not be one of those kind of films. Instead the film serves as a spiritual continuation of the series, but set in the real world similar to “Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on May 30, 2022.

For those who are not aware, the film is based on the “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers,” which was an animated series that aired on the Disney channel in 1989-1990. The series featured a team of detectives known as the “Rescue Rangers,” which includes Chip, Dale, Gadget Hackwrench, Monterey Jack, and Zipper. The team would solve mysteries from various patrons and would eventually encounter villains such as Fat Cat and mad scientist Norton Nimnul, just to name a few. The series was created by Tad Stones and Alan Zaslove.

Disney provided a short description for the film.

In “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers,” Chip and Dale are living amongst cartoons and humans in modern-day Los Angeles, but their lives are quite different now. It has been decades since their successful television series was canceled, and Chip (voice of Mulaney) has succumbed to a life of suburban domesticity as an insurance salesman. Dale (voice of Sandberg), meanwhile, has had CGI surgery and works the nostalgia convention circuit, desperate to relive his glory days. When a former cast mate mysteriously disappears, Chip and Dale must repair their broken friendship and take on their Rescue Rangers detective personas once again to save their friend’s life.

I have to admit I was thrown off guard with this trailer since I did not expect it was going to be in the style of Roger Rabbit and other live-action/ cartoon hybrid films. Additionally, I was shocked to find out that the film was going to be a spiritual followup to the series and not the usual “live-action” reboot films that Disney has been putting out in the last couple of years. That being said I am actually intrigued with this film and it was great to see all the various cameos featured throughout the trailer.
