Nintendo recently held a Nintendo Direct, which focused on Illumination The Super Mario Bros. Movie. For those who are not aware, the film was first announced in 2018 and the cast was revealed during the September 2021 Nintendo Direct.
The trailer features the first official look of Bowser (Jack Black) and Mario (Chris Pratt) in action along with Toad (Keegan-Michael Key). Additionally, the trailer features a first look at Kamek (Kevin Michael Richardson) and a short teaser at Luigi (Charlie Day). The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be released in theaters on April 7, 2023.
The trailer was pretty much what I expected although it is still surreal to see the voice moments for these characters after all these years. While the characters in the games did have some minor voice movements, it has never been this clean before so it is wild to see it in action. I am bit skeptical on Chris Pratt’s take on Mario, however since it was just a short teaser its hard to fully comment on. That being said the film does look like it holds the spirit of the games so I am looking forward to this film.
