Disney Investor Day: Marvel Recap

Happy Saturday heroes! I’m here with a quick recap of everything you’ve missed during the Disney Investor Day. This post specifically recapping every bit of Marvel news we were able to get. So without further ado, here’s the recap.

Starting things off we have a new trailer for the upcoming WandaVision series which is set to start it’s run on January 15th 2021. We’ve learned that this series will lead into Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse of Madness. Wanda played by Elizabeth Olsen is set to star in that upcoming film as well. In terms of casting news it was announced that America Chavez will be making her debut in this film. The actress playing that role is Xochitl Gomez. Finally, Doctor Strange second film will connect to the third Spider-Man film which is set to come out December 2021.

Next up we have The Falcon and the Winter Soldier which will be a six episode series which will feel as though it’s a cinematic film. The series is set to air on March 19, 2021. We have Anthony Mackie coming back as Falcon along with Sebastian Stan playing Bucky Barnes once more. I feel as though this will be the most grounded series compared to everything else we will be getting this time around. At least until Hawkeye airs in “Late Fall 2021”. You can check out the first trailer for this series down below.

Next up is Loki which will have Tom Hiddleston playing the god of mischief once more. This time around it seems Loki will be dealing with the TVA which will be interesting to see. The genre of this show is a crime-thriller. Which even Kevin Feige has acknowledge as “A little confusing but don’t worry Loki is just as confused as well.”.

Marvel’s What If? Is an upcoming animated series that asks that question to it’s audience. In this animated series we get to see some new takes on our current heroes and villains. I think this is one of the series I’m most anticipated for given where we could go with this in terms of storytelling. It should be noted that Chadwick Boseman was able to voice T’Challa in this series and I believe it will be his last time as the King of Wakanda.

We also had our first look at Ms.Marvel. That’s right, Kamala Khan will be coming to the small screen being played by Iman Vellani. We have a bit of a sizzle reel as they’re currently filming this series. No actual release date but I am excited for this character to appear on screen. She’s one of the few newest characters to really gain an audience and following since her creation back in 2014. Six years later and Kamala has shown her star power by debuting both in video game, animated, and live-action format.

  • Captain Marvel 2 is set to feature Nia DoCosta will be directing this film. We also have Brie Larson returning as Carol Danvers. Teyonah Parris will be playing Monica Rambeau again with her first appearance being in WandaVision. Finally, Iman Vellani will be playing Ms. Marvel and make her big screen debut.
  • Hawkeye has confirmed that Hailee Steinfeld will be playing Kate Bishop. Also Alaqua Cox is set to play Maya Lopez. Which if you’re in the loop, you know what maybe coming.
  • Secret Invasion is set to star Samuel L. Jackson playing Nick Fury once more. It will feature Ben Mendelsohn coming back as Talos. It will be dealing with the secret invasion of the Skrulls. Hopefully this will open the door for some Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D to return given that they know a thing or two about aliens.
  • Ironheart is another series coming to Disney + that is set to star Riri Williams and Dominique Thorne is set to play Ironheart. We don’t know much about this upcoming series just yet but it’s set to tie into the MCU going forward. I feel as though they’re setting up for a Young Avengers or Champions film in the future.
  • Armor Wars is set to star Don Cheadle as he attempts to deal with one of Tony Starks biggest fears being his armor getting into the wrong hands. I hope this means we get to see more of Iron Man rogues gallery like Crimson Dynamo, Titanium Man, or even Zeke Stane coming into play.

  • Marvel has confirmed that Tatiana Maslany is set to play the titular character. We know that Bruce Banner played by Mark Ruffalo. Finally Tim Roth is returning as Abomination which may have been the biggest surprise of the day.
  • The third Ant-man film is titled Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Most of the cast is set to return and this film will introduce Kang the Conqueror being played by Jonathan Majors which is amazing.
  • On the Guardians of the Galaxy front we have two pieces of news there. First being a Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special for Disney +. James Gunn is set to comeback and direct it. Second we have a short film series called I Am Groot which is set to star Groot.
  • Finally, Marvel Studios is developing a new Fantastic Four film. All we know so far is Jon Watts is set to direct but that’s it.

Final thoughts, I feel as though Marvel Studios has a lot of work to do. I wasn’t expecting so much news to be announced but I’m happy to live in a time where we’re getting so many live-action series featuring Marvel characters. I’m still holding out for an X-Men animated series that could tie into the MCU but I know that’s a pipe dream. Knowing Disney and Marvel they’ll make it a live-action film but at this point I would want a television series given how good all these shows look. Anyway, that’s been your recap and I’ll talk to you later.
