SciFi Japan recently confirmed that Toho Co., Ltd. has licensed Godzilla Resurgence (シン・ゴジラ, Shin Gojira) to FUNimation Entertainment. FUNimation also confirmed that they will be making a public announcement about this sometime this evening during the company’s panel at San Diego Comic Con, followed by tomorrow an official press release with additional details tomorrow. Early confirmed plans for the film is that it will receive a theatrical release in late 2016, with dates to be announced at a later time.
Now, as a fan of the franchise I am overly ecstatic from this announcement, and find it utterly ironic FUNimation owns the rights to distribute the film due to previous idle conversations with the staff here about wanting FUNimation to produce the official dub if was to be released. So until dates and a dub are confirmed, I will be eagerly waiting to cover the news on this developing story.
