Marvel has revealed some of the main cast for the upcoming Runaways series. Reminder that this series is set to air on Hulu. Anyway, I’ve been waiting for this ever since they announced that there would be a series. So without further ado, lets see whose up to play our favorite cast of Runaways.
Rhenzy Feliz will be playing Alex Wilder who has been described as “a loud-and-proud nerd. Admittedly a bit of a loner, Alex spends much of his free-time playing video games, but deep down, what he wants most is to reunite his childhood group of friends.”
Lyrica Okano will be playing Nico Minoru who has been described as “tough, intelligent, and independent–embodies teenage angst. A budding “Wiccan,” Nico’s carefully crafted goth appearance isolates her from her peers and family, but maybe what she really needs is someone to talk to.”
Virginia Gardner will be playing Karolina Dean who is described as “model-perfect exterior with a lot going on behind her professionally whitened smile, is burdened by the lofty expectations and responsibilities put upon her by her parents. Underneath her veneer of privilege and perfection, Karolina is experiencing a newfound eagerness to explore her identity and pursue her own desires.”
Ariela Barer will be playing Gert Yorkes. She has been described as ” a purple-haired, bespectacled, contemporary riot grrrl. Never passing up a moment to stand on a soapbox, Gert sometimes wields her persona as a brash social justice warrior to mask her true feelings.”
Gregg Sulkin is set to play Chase Stein who is described as “a lacrosse-playing, high school heartthrob. While many write him off as a dumb jock, Chase exhibits flashes of untapped brilliance in engineering, not unlike his wildly successful father’s.”
Allegra Acosta will be playing Molly Hernandez who is described as “the youngest and most innocent member of her friend group, is known for her peppy positivity and a deep yearning to belong.”
That’s all for casting news right now. More announcements will come as the show starts its production/filming. I have to say that I’m more excited about this than Iron Fist coming up in March. Runaways is such a great comic that will work on the small screen. Especially in a time where diversity is much needed in media and Runaways has that in spades.
What I’m really hoping is that Runaways opens the door for more teenage superheroes. I would love to see the Avengers Academy cast or Young Avengers cast debut on the small screen one day. As much as I love adult superheroes, there’s just something appealing about teenagers saving the day.
