Thundercats Roar Animated Series Announced

Entertainment Weekly has recently revealed that a new Thundercats animated series is in the works. Warner Bros. Animation will be producing the show for Cartoon Network a comedy based on show, which makes it quite different compared to the previous two incarnations. For those who are unaware, the series is based on Thundercats property, which was created in 1985.  The series also received a reboot series that aired on Cartoon Network in 2011. The new show will titled, “Thundercats Roar,” and is set to release on Cartoon Network in 2019.

EW also provided an official description for the series.

“Staying true to the premise of the original series, Lion-O and the ThunderCats — Tygra, Panthro, Cheetara, Wilykat, and Wilykit — barely escape the sudden destruction of their home world, Thundera, only to crash land on the mysterious and exotic planet of Third Earth. Lion-O, the newly appointed Lord of the ThunderCats, attempts to lead the team as they make this planet their new home. A bizarre host of creatures and villains stand in their way, including the evil Mumm-Ra, Third Earth’s wicked ruler who will let nothing, including the ThunderCats, stop his tyrannical reign over the planet.”

The official Thundercats Facebook page also updated with a behind the scenes video for the series.

The cast includes:

  • Max Mittleman: Lion-O, Wilykat
  • Erica Lindbeck: Cheetara, Wilykit
  • Patrick Seitz: Tygra, Mumm-Ra
  • Chris Jai Alex: Panthro

Personally I am quite afraid of this series since it has a very “modern” reboot take that has usually led to some pretty bad reboots. Hopefully my fears will not come to fruition, but at the moment I will be going in very skeptical.
