Pokémon Presents June 24 Presentation Streamed

The official Pokémon Youtube channel has updated with a new Pokémon Presents presentation. In today’s presentation, The Pokémon Company revealed that they will be teaming up with Tencent’s TiMi Studios to create a League of Legends style game titled, “Pokémon Unite.”

In Pokémon Unite, players will working in teams of five in order to gain enough points to win the match. Players will be able to gain points by leveling up their Pokémon and are able to make them evolve. Each Pokémon will start will start at level 1 and will be able to increase their levels by catching wild Pokémon or defeating them. After leveling up, players will be able to use unique special moves known as Unite Moves. If the players’ Pokémon is defeated then there will be a short wait period before they can return to the battle. While the company did not reveal a release date they did confirm that the game will be free to start. Additionally, the confirmed that the game will be available on both mobile devices and for Nintendo Switch with cross-platform capabilities. No other details are confirmed at this time so stay tuned for updates.

I have to admit that I did not expect the Pokémon franchise to hit the MOBA genre. While I can not say I am not disappointed in the reveal I am surprised they decided to release a single 10-5 minute a week after the first presentation. Other than that I do not have anything else really to say about this project, although it is still very bizarre.
