Transformers R.E.D. 6 Inch Figure Series Revealed

Earlier today, IGN reported about a new line of Transformers articulated action figures called the R.E.D. (Robot Enhanced Design) series. The new line of figures will be similar to what is seen with Hasbro’s other properties such as the Star Wars Black Series, Marvel Legends, and the Power Rangers Lightning Collection. These figures will be fully posse-able and will include several accessories, however they will not be able to transform. The figures will retail for $19.99 each and will be Walmart exclusives. Preorders will open on June 26 at 1 PM EST and the first wave of figures will be released on September 1.

The first two figures revealed were Optimus Prime and Megatron.

The figures will include:

  • Megatron:  Fusion Cannon, Four Alternate Hands (One holding Energon Cube) , Energon Mace
  • Optimus Prime: Four alternate hands, Ion Blaster, Energon Axe

This is not the first time Transformers has delved into the non transforming articulated format as the brand previously tackled it with the Action Master line in the early 90s. The movieverse also received a very similar format with the Robot Replicas line in 2007, albeit the limitations of movement made them more like statues. Takara Tomy also released a similar style line of figures under their Mega SCF line in the early 2000s.
