RRPG’s Final Fantasy Retrospective – Episode 12 (Final Fantasy XV)

In this the newest installment of RRPG’s Final Fantasy Retrospective, Tetsuya Nomura would originally helm a project that was supposed to be a part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis – Final Fantasy project that Final Fantasy XIII lead the way with. However, its size and scope grew out of proportion that it would force the Japanese RPG company to rebrand the game as the next mainline entry. Passing the torch to the director of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy Type-0, Hajime Tabata would restructure the game to become what we now know as Final Fantasy XV.

Final Fantasy XV is widely known as the Final Fantasy game to have the longest development cycle after many others that came before it. Also, its delivery left a very divisive reaction from fans throughout the world. Its release would mark another turning point for the company, but it would be based on both the right and wrong reasons for their future. Whether the game was actually an enjoyable experience or a prolonged misstep remains debatable, but it has become another important game in the franchise’s history. For episode 12, we look at the origins of this game as it was originally known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII, as well as its transformation and impact in the gaming world. Now, even without Hironobu Sakaguchi working on the series for quite a long time, his creative integrity and spiritual representation still drive the Final Fantasy IP to greater heights than it ever has. Nevertheless, episode 12 of RRPG’s Final Fantasy Retrospective has officially arrived, so sit back and enjoy!

-DISCLAIMER-

For those who may to bring up that Final Fantasy XV also came out on the Google Stadia, I, RRPG already knew about that. I choose to not include it in this video due to the Stadia’s poor reception from a global standpoint.
