IGN recently streamed a gameplay trailer for Sonic Frontiers. For those who are not aware, the game was first announced during the 2021 Game Awards. Unlike the previous Sonic titles, this game is an open world styled game. The trailer showcases the environment and some of the puzzle solving that seems to be feature in the game. Sonic Frontiers is set to release for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in Holiday 2022.
This game looks breathtaking, however it does worry me a bit. Unlike other Sonic games that usually get boggled down by loads of enemies in typical fashion this one seems to be the complete opposite. That being said that is not a bad thing, however it does worry me that this game might push too far in the direction of a large world with not much to do in. Seeing as the game seems to still be in the early development stages this could easily mean this is more of a tech demo so things can easily change. I will be looking close at the various updates to the game as we get closer to release.
