Star Trek Strange New Worlds Teaser Trailer Released

At long last, Paramount has finally released the teaser trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The long awaited teaser trailer was first shown at the Paramount Global Investor Day event, originally intended for investors only. After fans were posting screenshots from what accidentally became a publicly shown trailer, Paramount issued DCMA notices for screen shots from the trailer.

Now that the trailer is finally available for all to see, we now get our first glimpse at the newest Star Trek series. While Strange New Worlds is a new series, it has many ties to past Star Trek productions. The series stars Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike. Mount returns to the role after he appeared in Star Trek Discovery Season 2. The character of Captain Pike originated from Star Trek’s first pilot, “The Cage” where the crew of the USS-Enterprise were quite different. Strange New Worlds will be using many of the characters from said pilot for the series cast.

Also returning are Ethan Peck as Spock and Rebecca Romijn as Number One/Una Chin-Riely, reprising their roles from Star Trek Discovery Season 2. Joining the cast as legacy characters include: Babs Olusanmokun as M’Benga, Jess Bush as Christine Chapel, and Celia Rose Gooding as Nyota Uhura. New characters will be debuting in the series as well with Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh, Melissa Navia as Erica Ortegas, and Bruce Horak as Hemmer.

The 10-Episode first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will begin airing exclusively on Paramount+ on May 5, 2022. A second season is currently filming to debut in 2023. The series is said to be a return to the episodic “planet of the week” story structure that hasn’t truly been seen since Star Trek Enterprise ended in 2004. Star Trek fans are hotly anticipating this series as it will be the first of the CBS All-Access/Paramount Plus era to feature a version of the Enterprise as the hero ship, as well as being a prequel to The Original Series, and a somewhat spin-off of Discovery.

The teaser trailer itself is 1 minute and 25 seconds long and gives us a look at the story, some of the strange new worlds that will be visited as well as the updated Enterprise. The bulk of the teaser seems to be at the start of the season with Pike being asked back to the Enterprise after what seems to be a period of time away from the ship.
