[Official Images] Monopoly: Godzilla – Monster Edition

Last month, we reported that Hasbro and Parker Bros’ iconic game Monopoly would be releasing a Godzilla: Monster Edition in Spring 2020. Yet, during the announcement the only information provided were the game’s contents and the box artwork. However, we currently have the official product gallery which showcases the game pieces, board, and other accessories. Now, the game pieces/ token mostly use the monsters’ original Showa incarnations, but we think Mothra slightly resembles the Trendmasters‘ design. In addition, the Godzilla Tower and U.N.G.C.C. (G-Force) cards did not change from its original listings, representing the Community Chest and Chance cards. Furthermore, the board is littered with fictional and actual locations seen in the various films. Whereas, the game’s Railroads are replaced by iconic vehicles like the Mazer Tank, and Atragon. Below is the full gallery from OpGames:

Monopoly: Godzilla ($39.99)

Demolish the competition in a city-terrorizing twist on the classic board game with MONOPOLY®: Godzilla. Begin the invasion by buying, selling and trading locations like Monster Island, Goro’s Workshop, and Kitakami Lake and take over the board with Facilities and Bases. Custom sculpted tokens of giants such as Mothra, Godzilla, King Ghidorah, and Mechagodzilla easily impose on anything in their path!

Ages: 6+, 2-6 Players, Playtime: 60+ MINUTES

  • 1 Game Board
  • 6 Collectible Tokens: Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah, Minilla, Mechagodzilla, Rodan
  • 28 Title Deed Cards
  • 32 Houses renamed FACILITIES
  • 12 Hotels renamed BASES
  • 16 UNGCC Cards
  • 1 Pack of Kaiju Credit Currency
  • 2 Dice
  • Rules

Overall, Monopoly: Godzilla – Monster Edition is visually set in the Showa era, but there sprinklings of the Heisei and Millennium eras. What is surprising about the game is how it includes other non-Godzilla Toho films like Varan. So, this Monster Edition is a real celebration of the Golden Age of kaiju, and Godzilla’s destructive legacy! Nevertheless, fans should slap down pre-orders now, so as to not miss out on this release.
