On February 17th via their Candy Toy Twitter account, Bandai announced the upcoming 20th anniversary campaign for Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger. For those unaware, Gaoranger is the 25th installment in the Super Sentai series, while also commemorating the franchise’s 25th anniversary. The series was directly adapted into Power Rangers Wild Force, with some minor changes to the story occurring.
Now, within the initial announcement, there was a teaser image for Super Mini-Pla GaoKing. However, in the following weeks, Bandai confirmed this release would be part of their new subline, Shokugan Model Project. This subline will feature original designers contributing to making the models even more accurate to their toy and onscreen counterparts. Also, this subline is to focus more on live-action mecha seen in tokusatsu programs. Whereas, another line being developed is the SMP Alternative Destiny for specific anime properties like GunBuster. Nevertheless, below is the official image gallery for SMP Shogukan Modeling Project GaoKing from Bandai’s Candy Toy site:
Pre-orders for SMP Shokugan Model Project Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger GaoKing will open soon at most online retailers. The full set is being sold for 5500 yen, and with its released schedule for July 2021. However, North Americans should not expect an official distribution for this item at retail via Bluefin Brands due to Hasbro. Hopefully, one day Hasbro and Bluefin will re-negotiate a deal to allow Super Sentai Super Mini-Pla within North America again.
