Saint Seiya Live-Action Adaptation in the Works

MY COSMOS IS BURNING! For today, it was announced that a live-action adaptation for Saint Seiya has been green-lit. The Eiga.com reported that Toei Animation will be co-producing the film with the Chinese distribution company, A Really Good Film Company (ARGF). In addition, the director and producers for the film were revealed during the announcement. The Saint Seiya film will directed by Polish director, Tomasz Bagiński. Bagiński, best known for his Academy Award-nominated short animation, The Cathedral, and the Witcher series intros. Then Toei Animation‘s own, Yoshiyuki Ikezawa and Kozo Morishita will serve as producer and executive producer. Kozo Morishita has served as director, producer, and planner for most of the Saint Seiya animated series and feature films.

 

Saint Seiya is an original manga series written by Masami Kurumada published from 1986 to 1990. The manga series was quickly adapted into an anime series. Since its conception the series, has had three animated series, several anime films, various OVAs and spin-offs. In addition, the series has been distributed worldwide becoming popular in Europe, South America, and North America. Viz Media published the original manga as Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac. The original anime series two dubs and distributions through ADV Films and DIC. ADV Films was the more faithful dub of the series, whereas DIC the more publicly known dub was not. This lead to the series having trouble becoming in North America until New Video Group re-released the series on DVD, as well as becoming accessible through Crunchyroll’s streaming service. Now, one can only hope for the best with this production!
