Darth Maul Comic Mini-Series Announced

Recently it has been announced that Darth Maul will be getting a new Marvel miniseries.    The series will be written by Cullen Bunn and Luke Ross and will run for five issues and will debut next February.  The character first debut in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace and appeared in The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.

The series will feature Darth Maul being trained by Darth Sidious. In his impatience from being told that he was not ready to fight the Jedi, he goes to the worst places in the galaxy to vent his anger.  He later discovers the existence of a Padawan named Eldra Kaitis who has been captured by a crime lord.  Maul decides to take advantage of this so he searches for him to test his skills against or to somehow convey him to the dark side.

Bunn explains that he wants to balance the character between his appearance in The Phantom Menace and the version seen in The Clone Wars as well as Star Wars Rebels.   He also explains that he took most of his inspiration for the character from the climatic scene in The Phantom Menace where he, Obi-Wan, and Qui-Gon Jinn have their duel.   Bunn quoted, “I like seeding where that impatience and anger comes from.”
