Earlier in 2019, it was reported that an animated series based on the Star Trek franchise was in the works at Nickelodeon, however no other details were confirmed about the project outside of the production team until today. Deadline has reported that the series will be titled, “Star Trek: Prodigy,” and is set to premiere on Nickelodeon in 2021. The news was first revealed during today’s Star Trek Universe mega-panel during the virtual Comic-Con@Home event.
Kevin and Dan Hageman are working as the head writers on the project. Also reported earlier, Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kaiden, Katie Krentz, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Rath will be working as the executive producers. Aaron Baiers has been brought on to be the co-executive producer on the project. The series will be produced by Eye Animation Productions, Secret Hideout, and Roddenberry Entertainment. Ramsey Naito, who is the “EVP of animation production and development at Nickelodeon” will be overseeing the series.
